Other Productivity Tools
In this unit we learned about other productivity tools that can be used in the classroom. These productivity tools are called beyond-the-basic productivity tools. These tools are different from the basic productivity tools because they allow the user to do more things with the software then just create documents. Theses programs allow you to organize, collect data, and generate materials in different ways then the basic software.
The Cobb County Schools System, offers 3 different beyond-the-basic productivity tools for students to used in the classroom.

Kidpix
Kidpix is a graphic software designed for students in elementary school. The software is kid-friendly from the colorful icon to the musical graphics that pop onto the screen. This software allows students to use graphics to create a story that actives their imagination.
Inspiration/Kidspiration
Inspiration/Kidspiration is a concept mapping program. Inspiration and Kidspiration are the same program, just Kidspiration is commonly used by students in grades k-5 because it is more kid-friendly with icons. Both of these software are a visual graphic organizing program that allows students to organize their thoughts by using concept maps with graphics and text. While the students are making their concept maps the program is working in the background creating a outline of the concept map, making it easier for students to write papers.
Timeliner
Timeline is a software program that allows students to create a visual chronological timeline. This program has been around for a while, but they've added new features to it that will help make the timelines more appealing to students who are viewing and/or creating them. The program has added images, videos, and sound clips that can be added to the presentation from the data bank on the program or by uploading them from your computer. By using this program students make historical connections to the past in a interesting and exciting way.The program plots the events as the students are typing them into the program. Which means students do not have to type the events in order as they happened because the program will automatically order the events in chronological order.
I have created an example using Timeliner, to demonstate how I would use it in my classroom. I would use with software as a getting to know to assignment but also help student understand the sequence of events, as they happened chronologically, for a second grade classroom. In my example you'll see a lifetime of my life. If you click on timeline it will pull up my example using the software. If you do not have the software please click pdf.
The example uses the following standard:
